If seems, if people can find any element that looks remotely “dressy”, they will try to remove it. If the bow tie looks too formal, it gets replaced by a four in hand. If the silk facings look too dressy, out they go. Pointed lapels, too, look more formal and get replaced by step lapels—the one button closure likewise with two to three buttons. The shirt gets made with attached collar; the shirt studs and cufflinks replaced by buttons. You see all of this today—sometimes all at once. Modern man has a deep insecurity—a deeply ingrained pschological terror of looking dressed. At the heart of it all, he says say to himself: “I am not important enough to be dressed, so place me in rags”.

Look at these cool things! My great great friend Theresa was portraits of me last month and look—I finally got them and am so pleased with the results. The plan is to autograph these with a silver sharpie and give them away to potential employers… so we’ll see how that goes…
